Lost. is a risograph book that interconnects olympic skateboarder Yuto Horigome’s speech from Nike’s “What are you Working On?” series with the phenomenom of arrival fallacy.
Olympic skateboarder Yuto Horigome spoke about losing touch with his personal love for skateboarding once it became his profession—achieving goals brought happiness, but also a sense of losing himself. This reflects arrival fallacy, a psychological phenomenon I explored through Wanda Thibodeax’s writing for Inc., which examines the emotional realities of success. Pairing Yuto’s personal experience with Thibodeax’s analysis creates a dialogue between lived experience and psychological insight, offering a rare, introspective perspective on ambition, loss, and rediscovery.

The design draws from skateboarding zine culture and a diary-like perspective, creating an intimate, personal feel. I chose risograph printing because it was invented in Tokyo—Yuto’s hometown of Kōtō, a ward within the city—and has long been associated with alternative art and zine culture. Red and black inks reference skateboarding brands, while the mix of illustrations and photographs reflects Yuto’s external journey and his introspective exploration of his identity as a skateboarder.
